Dr Louis Rosenberg is a lifelong metaverse pioneer, his work starting over 30 years ago in VR labs at Stanford and NASA. In 1991 he pitched the idea of mixed reality to Air Force Research Laboratory and was funded to build the Virtual Fixtures platform, the first mixed reality system that enabled users to interact with a unified spatial environment of real and virtual objects. The system went beyond sight and sound, enabling users to reach out and feel interactions between real and virtual objects in full 3D space. Rosenberg was so convinced of the potential of immersive worlds, he founded the early VR company Immersion Corporation in 1993 and brought it public on NASDAQ. He then founded the early AR company Outland Research in 2004 and the AI company Unanimous AI in 2014. Rosenberg was a tenured professor at California State University, has published over 100 papers, and has been awarded over 300 patents for his work in VR, AR, & AI. He is a leading advocate for the safe and ethical use of immersive worlds.
In the dynamic world of tech startups and game-changing innovators, the name Jack McCauley stands prominent. An esteemed professor and Innovator in Residence at UC Berkeley’s Jacobs Institute for Design Innovation, Jack is an American engineer and inventor par excellence, pushing the envelope in the gaming industry and beyond.
Jack’s entrepreneurial journey is notably marked by his co-founding of Oculus VR, where he also led as the chief engineer. He’s the mastermind behind the groundbreaking Oculus DK1 and DK2 virtual reality headsets that propelled Oculus into the limelight and led to its jaw-dropping acquisition by Facebook for a cool $2 Billion.
But Jack isn’t just a one-trick pony. His innovative flair runs deep, being the design genius behind the much-loved guitars and drums for the Guitar Hero video game series. Jack is the proud holder of a plethora of U.S. patents across a diverse array of fields, including software, audio effects, VR, motion control, computer peripherals, and video game hardware and controllers.
Not just a successful entrepreneur, Jack is also an academic powerhouse. A UC Berkeley alumnus, he graduated with a BSc in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science in 1986, courtesy of a full scholarship. His intellectual curiosity extends to AI, where he has penned numerous research papers on mathematical modeling of AI-based systems.
